Private Homesteads
Without Operating The Farm
Introducing
Stewardland Homesteads
Stewardland is not a conventional acreage subdivision.
Rather than maximizing density, Stewardland Homesteads prioritizes thoughtful land integration, with a limited number of acreage homes carefully positioned throughout the landscape to preserve views, natural features, wetlands and open environmental corridors - creating a cohesive community that still feels quiet, expansive and deeply connected to the land itself.
Core to each community is a productive farm, professionally managed by Stewardland.
The private homesteads are integrated within this professionally managed farm environment, where residents experience the simplicity and beauty of acreage lifestyle - fresh food and outdoor living - without the responsibility and workload traditionally associated with owning and operating farmland themselves.
People are drawn to homestead living because they want:
-
space
-
fresh food
-
nature
-
animals
-
privacy
-
simplicity
-
land
-
slower living
-
and a deeper connection to where their food comes from.
But for most, that lifestyle is difficult to access.
They may not have:
-
the land
-
the knowledge
-
the equipment
-
the time
-
the capital
-
the confidence
-
or the desire to take on the full responsibility of operating a farm themselves.
Stewardland Homesteads bridges that gap.
It gives people access to only the best parts of homestead and farm living - open space, fresh locally grown food, outdoor living and connection to the land.
Modern Communities. Rooted in Tradition.

A Simpler Way to Live
Stewardland Homesteads is designed around a different idea entirely:
that modern families still want space, nature, privacy, connection to locally grown food and a slower pace of life - but without the operational burden traditionally attached to acreage ownership.
Rather than clearing and flattening the land into rows of isolated homes, Stewardland is designed to work with the natural landscape itself.
Protected wetlands, open pasture, ponds, tree corridors, regenerative farmland and carefully integrated homestead clusters become part of the living experience of the community.
The result is a rural environment that feels grounded, peaceful and deeply connected to the land around it.
Homes are intentionally positioned within the landscape rather than imposed upon it - creating a community where nature, agriculture and modern living coexist together.
Every element of Stewardland is designed around the idea of “rural lifestyle without rural isolation.”
Residents experience:
-
open skies
-
private land
-
farm life
-
outdoor living
-
walking trails
-
seasonal agriculture
-
fresh food
-
wildlife
-
ponds and wetlands
-
natural gathering spaces
-
and a strong sense of community
…without needing to operate a farm themselves.
The farm is integrated into the community and professionally managed.
Greenhouses, orchards, rotational grazing fields, gardens, ponds, bee yards and regenerative agricultural systems are woven throughout the community, creating a lifestyle that feels both timeless and modern at the same time.
Stewardland Homestead Communities are intentionally low-density.
Homes are clustered intentionally to preserve natural open space, environmental corridors, water systems and long-range views.
This creates a community that feels expansive, quiet and connected to nature rather than crowded or overdeveloped.
The goal is not simply to build homes.
The goal is to create a place where people feel rooted in the land again.
Who is this For?
This is for people who:
-
Want acreage living without wanting or needing to know how to farm
-
Care about where their food comes from
-
Don’t want to take on the cost of equipment or full-time job of upkeep
-
Want space - but not isolation
-
Are future planning for family, including multi-generational living
Why small Communities?
Acreage living doesn’t have to mean doing it alone.
Smaller communities offer:
-
Space and privacy but with neighbours nearby
-
A sense of connection without density
-
A shared system that makes everything easier
You still have your own place -
you’re just not doing everything on your own.
Why Alberta?
We're focusing on Central and Southern Alberta—
Close enough to towns for everyday needs and within reach of major cities—just not in them.
It’s the balance most people are looking for: space, access, and long-term stability.
The Problem We're Solving
Times have changed.
People are thinking more about the cost of living, food security, where their food comes from, and how they want their families to live in the future.
Acreage living has always been appealing - but doing it alone isn’t realistic for most.
The land, the time, the cost, the equipment - it adds up quickly.
That’s the problem we’re solving.
Stewardland Homesteads is a more practical way for acreage living -
where key infrastructure, systems and costs are managed at scale, not by each homeowner individually.
You still own your homestead -
but you’re not carrying the full weight of running a farm by yourself.
Led by Vision.
Built by Experts.
Stewardland Homesteads was founded by Karen Willson to create a new model of rural living - acreage ownership without the work.
We’re building communities across Alberta designed for space, self-sufficiency and access to organic food grown where you live.
Karen leads the vision, land strategy and execution - bringing together every part of the project from site selection and planning through to development and delivery.
Stewardland Homesteads are built using project-specific expert teams, carefully assembled
at each stage of the project. This includes planners, engineers, agricultural specialists,
development consultants, and construction partners.
Each project is supported by a “super team”- a highly experienced group brought together to execute at a high level.
This approach ensures:
-
the right expertise is applied at the right time
-
decisions are made with clarity and precision
-
execution remains efficient, coordinated, and aligned with the long-term vision
Stewardland isn’t reliant on any one person. It’s built on the right structure, the right expertise and disciplined execution.
